                                      The Long Hill Estate Letterbox

                                                               Middletown, Connecticut

The Gal Pals have planted a single letterbox at the Long Hill Estate in Middletown, CT. Please go to www.wadsworthmansion.com to learn more about this lovely mansion and its magnificent grounds. Directions to the Estate are located there as well as a wonderful map of the trails.

Difficulty: EASY 1.5 mile walk. Relax and enjoy - you're worth it !!

Park on the side of the road near the beginning of the trail. You will see a large sign and a map on the left side of the road. Here is where the Perimeter Trail begins.

Hike- Head due south following the blue blazed trail into the forest and over the small bridge. (use bug spray or lemon grass oil in summer). When the blue meets the orange, head east at 90 degrees on the blue trail. Stay on the blue trail as it winds to the right after marker # 4 ( heading south) and passing beautiful giant beeches, oaks, and hemlocks. Then pass along a corridor of lovely white birches who salute you ( marker # 5). Continue on the blue blazed trail past marker # 6 through the hemlocks and downhill on toward the pond. Staying on the blue trail as it takes a left at 220 degrees-STOP at marker # 7. Face the marker and go 6 steps .  There in the stone wall, you will find the Long Hill Estate Letterbox. After stamping in, follow the blue trail straight ahead at 220 degrees around the perimeter trail. You will cross an open field that gives you spectacular views of the southern facade of the Wadsworth Mansion. Follow the blue trail through the stone wall and take an immediate right. Here, you will pick up the orange trail which follows along side of the stone wall.  Head North at 30 degrees past markers # 22 and 23. Stay on the orange blazed trail to the driveway and down the main entrance road back to your motorized carriage. Pause for a moment on your way back at the original driveway off on the right and imagine yourself transported back to 1908. This estate was the rival of the Mansions of Newport and we are honored to have it here in Middletown. We hope you have enjoyed you trip through the past.  Slow Camel, Kayak, and Coach
